Every year, we wonder what film will be breaking yet another box office record. Whether you’re a movie enthusiast or just a casual in the theatres, make sure to watch these films at least once in your life. This is the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time Note: We will try our best to minimize spoilers (in case you have yet to see it). 

1. Avengers: Endgame (2019)

2019 was a year to remember for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Endgame is the thrilling conclusion to the franchise’s main storylines. After Thanos wipes the entire half of the universe, the last remaining heroes are tasked to regroup and alter the course of history. This film sparks the question of what Marvel plans for the future of the stellar MCU.

Fun Fact: Directors of the film revealed that they have two versions of the script. One original being “Code Red” and the fake one as “Code Blue”. Robert Downey Jr. was the only one with the full and original script.   

2. Avatar (2009)

Considered to be one of the most groundbreaking films in its time (by 2009 standards). Avatar is set in the 22nd century where humans are inhabiting Pandora, a moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri. They are after the room-temperature superconductor, Unobtanium, a resource only available in Pandora. As time passed, the human’s activities threaten the humanoid species called Na’vi.

Fun Fact: Avatar’s development began in 1994 when Cameron wrote an 80-page treatment for the film. It was supposed to begin production after Titanic in 1997. Cameron believed that they did not have the technology to execute it, temporarily shelving the idea.   

3. Titanic (1997)

Yet another James Cameron in this list. Titanic is an epic romance slash disaster film about a romance between a pair living in different social classes. Titanic incorporates both fictional and historical details from the sinking of the “Unsinkable”, RMS Titanic.

Fun Fact: After a shoot, the crew was served with some lobster chowder. After eating the meal, some have appeared to be laughing, crying, or throwing up. It turns out, someone spiked the meal with PCP, or popularly known as “Angel Dust’. Currently, no one has any idea of who was behind it.  

4. Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015)

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is the seventh film in the skywalker saga and serves as the first film in the sequel trilogy. It features the adventures of Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, and Han Solo as they look for Luke Skywalker. The film features the battle between the Resistance along with veterans of the Rebel Alliance against the successors of the Galactic Empire, The First Order.

Fun Fact: The film uses unused designs from the previous trilogies for their set.   

5. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Avengers: Infinity War serves as the first part of MCU’s two-part conclusion (with the second part being Endgame). The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy tries to stop Thanos from wiping half of the universe with the Infinity Stones. The film borrows some elements from the comic books in the past most notably “Infinity Gauntlet” and “Infinity”

Fun Fact: Avengers: Infinity War serves as the celebration of the 10th year anniversary of the MCU, started by Iron Man in 2008.   

6. Jurassic World (2015)

Kids of the 90’s rejoiced when they heard that another trilogy of the beloved Jurassic Park Franchise would be heading to theatres in 2015. Jurassic World is the first film in the Jurassic World trilogy. The film is set 22 years after the events of the first Jurassic Park film. It is set in Isla Nubla, off the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, where a park of cloned dinosaurs operates. Then, things went awry when a dinosaur escapes its enclosure wreaking havoc on the island.

Fun fact: Jurassic World created a 300ft x 200ft boardwalk in the abandoned Six Flags theme park in New Orleans (which was used in film productions in the past).   

7. The Lion King (2019)

The Lion King is the remake of the original film of the same name which was released in 1994. It retells the story of Simba, a lion that’s set to rule his native land after his father Mufasa died at the hands of his uncle. The film surpassed Frozen as the highest-grossing animated film of all time.

Fun Fact: The animators used Beyoncé’s stage performances as inspiration for Nala.  

8. The Avengers (2012)

Formed and recruited by Nick Fury and the S.H.I.E.L.D, Bruce Banner, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and Thor must work together in preventing Loki from invading the earth.

Fun Fact: Robert Downey Jr. wore platform shoes during his scenes with Gwyneth Paltrow who was barefoot so he would appear taller than her. 

9. Furious 7 (2015)

Furious 7 is the seventh installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise. It follows the story of the crew living their normal lives in the United States after obtaining amnesty from their past crimes. Things began to get complicated once again when a rogue special forces assassin began exacting revenge for his brother.

Fun Fact: After Paul Walker’s untimely demise midway through the filming, the filmmakers decided to use Walker’s brothers, Caleb and Cody as stand-ins for the late actor.   

10. Frozen II (2019)

Frozen II is the latest movie entry in the list. The film is set three years after the events of the first movie. It follows Anna, Elsa, Sven, Olaf, and Kristoff in their adventure beyond the kingdom of Arendelle to find the true origin of Elsa’s powers.

Fun Fact: The Directors of the film confirmed that there are more easter eggs in the first film that are yet to be discovered.
