Teen Scientist and Inventor Named First-Ever “Time” Kid of the Year

Gen Z has proved to be a generation bursting with ideas and is here in full swing with what they have to offer and believe. They are highly capable individuals, ready for what the world has to offer.

Just previously, Time introduced child-climate activist Greta Thunberg as “Person of the Year” due to her tireless efforts to get the people and powerful personnel to recognize the dangers of climate change and encourage people to lessen their carbon footprint.

This soon made segue for many other young entrepreneurs to be recognized by the establishment, who are researching in various fields and trying to make a change for a better tomorrow.

Time has now come together with its sister platform, Time of Kids and Nickelodeon to introduce the world to their first-ever, the Kid of the Year, Gitanjali Rao.

Gitanjali is a 15-year old scientist from U.S Colorado, researcher, and inventor who has been working towards mastering technology to come up with innovative solutions in crisis.

Her area of research includes looking for solutions to polluted drinking water, drug addiction, cyberbullying as well as the ongoing gender and racial imbalance within our societies.

While this may seem like a whole lot, keep in mind, Gitanjali was among 5000 other candidates for this title and won. This shows how many young researchers are trying to seize their opportunities and looking for ways to change the world for a better future for themselves.

With political instability, an ongoing pandemic, and standing at a dangerous stage of global warming, it is no surprise that Gen Z is upset. They seem to have begun to take matters into their own hands to work for a future for themselves.

Gitanjali’s efforts paid off pretty well. Firstly, her recognition by a lead world magazine and making history by being known as the First-Ever Kid of the Year. To top it all with a cherry on top she got to be interviewed by none other than Angelina Jolie.

(What a year for Gitanjali!) In her interview, she mentioned her goal was not only to create technology to help in world problems but also to encourage others to so.

“If I can do it, you can do it and anyone can do it” said Ms. Rao.

Gitanjali might be only 15 years old, but she notices and observes the worldly troubles from a much mature eye. She highlights how her generation is facing problems and crises like never before and yet old problems like issues with basic human-rights continue.

While this is only the start for Gitanjali, we wish her luck in her future endeavors and hope she inspires more young entrepreneurs to come forth with their ideas.
