Mainly because of the pandemic, people have been forced to rethink their housing options. Some people from the most populated American cities have been considering moving out of their current city in favor of more economical choices. The majority of searches for property in this area came from our friends from New York.
Atlanta
Let’s start first with the cheapest option among the five. Atlanta’s median sale price sits substantially lower than that of others in the list. In reality, Atlanta’s portion of search users outside the metro recorded lower this year compared to 2019. For Q2 2020, Atlanta had 26.4% as compared to 2019’s 26.7%.

Austin
Austin received 35.6% of searches outside the metro for the Q2 of 2020. Majority of the searches for affordable homes came from those in San Francisco, California.

Las Vegas
People from Los Angeles have also been exploring choices in Las Vegas. They have been identified as the top searches for properties in Las Vegas. The portion of searches outside the metro stood at 46.6% for the Q2 of 2020.
Median Sale Price: $309,000
Sacramento
Sacramento’s neighbors seemed to record most of the searches for homes in the area. Sacramento recorded 46.6% user searches from outside the metro. According to RedFin, the top origin of searches came from San Francisco, California.
Median Sale Price: $445,000
Phoenix
The highest on our list is Phoenix. According to the report, the proportion of users’ searches were listed at 35.1%. Majority of these searches came from those in Los Angeles, California.
Median Sale Price: $310,000
The current state of the pandemic has forced everyone to rethink their finances. According to RedFin, the main driver behind this are the living costs compared to the top cities. Remote workplaces may also be a factor in people’s choice. People would want a big backyard and office space in preparation for their work from home setup.
