Attending school is one of many ways to success. For some, school is just a stop and they have to move away from it to earn all the money they would ever need in their lifetimes. Chris Choi, a former dental-school student dropped out to become an Airbnb millionaire.
Who is he?
Let’s draw a picture of him first. Chris was an immigrant in the USA. His parents worked all week just to make ends meet. What separates him from others is his belief that he could achieve everything he wants if he works on it.
He is in the hospitality industry along with six others. By the time he was 27, Chris was already a millionaire. The next year, he already owned seven businesses. All of which are automated. This means that he has all the time in the world to put in work, anytime and anywhere.
Chris is popular in social media sites for being in the top 1% earners in Airbnb. How was it all possible? Let’s find out.
His Daily Hustle
As mentioned above, Chris gave importance to hard work. In an interview with Yahoo! Finance he said:
“A great life seems to be challenging to most people because they are not willing to sacrifice and do things that the 1% minorities are and work so hard towards.”
Like other people, he also did not believe on depending on only one source of income. He looked for more streams of income. He built his skillset from scratch to be able to diversify his income. At first, he wanted to be an oral surgeon. Chris later realized the debt he is going to accrue in pursuing his dream.
What started his exponential success is his decision to invest in the real estate market with rental arbitration. He rents a house or property and legally subleasing it.
Challenges and Learnings
One of Chris’ biggest challenges is building the right mindset to propel him to success. He tells Yahoo! Finance:
“If someone is creative, passionate and most importantly resourceful enough, they can raise capital and expand their network. Anything is possible as long as one has the winning mindset. Mindset and psychology is controlling 90% of all businesses and knowing that as an owner will help you strive for success.”
He advises aspiring entrepreneurs to be brave enough and stop planning the perfect business. Instead of wasting time in micromanaging, make realistic plans to let your business materialize.
At every field he puts interest in, he makes sure that he has mentors to learn from. These mentors are more experienced than him. This allows Chris to learn from their mistakes and make better judgements and calls in his business.
Chris is currently working on a tech company that aims to solve one of the biggest problems in the real estate industry. He has learned so much in his journey that he has become a mentor himself to over 100 people. Chris mainly focuses on guiding people to become financially stable through passive income in Airbnb.
