5 Ways Artificial Intelligence (AI) Is Transforming Websites And Software

In the past 10 years, the Internet has seen many advancements regarding Artificial Intelligence. AI is assisting people in a variety of ways, especially in websites and applications. Over the past 10 years, AI has become much smarter, more widely utilized, easier to use, and is more accessible. Also, in the past decade, a substantial amount of companies and startups (Facebook, Twitter, DebateIsland.com, Google, Buzzfeed.com, etc.) have begun utilizing AI for their websites/apps, and that number seems to be increasing rapidly. Already, Artificial Intelligence is improving the way people use and interact with websites and applications. For example, DebateIsland.com’s “Debra AI” is completely changing the way users debate online by analyzing various aspects of debate arguments, predicting the winner/s of online debates, creating user analytics, calculating user skill levels, and ensuring civil behavior. Recently, Microsoft had launched its “Machine Reading” research project which aims to teach AI how to read and comprehend numerous documents and then decide the best answer for a certain question based on what it read. There are many other AI research projects from IBM, Microsoft, Google, and other companies which seek to advance machine learning and Artificial Intelligence. A large amount of AI technology and research projects seem far-fetched, but how is Artificial Intelligence already starting to transform websites and applications?

1) User Interfaces are becoming more natural and human-like due to enhanced Artifical Intelligence chatbots. Between personal assistants like Amazon’s Alexa, and robots like Anki’s Vector, Technology is generally moving towards being more human-like. Right now this mainly applies to hardware products, but is speedily expanding to software. Without AI, if somebody wants to add an item in a checklist application, they have to click multiple buttons for navigation, select various options, find specific fields, and comprehend the descriptions for those fields. Although, if somebody tells they’re assistant to add an item in a paper checklist manually, or do it themselves, they’ll only tell or write the item’s name, due date, and possibly a couple of other pieces of information. These two methods are extraordinarily different, but the paper option is easier to complete. With advanced Artifical Intelligence chatbots being used today, users are able to tell an AI chatbot to add an item in a checklist application by typing/saying the item and related information which they think is important. Then, the Artificial Intelligence analyzes and executes the user’s request, without follow-up questions. Using this procedure in a mainstream way, will result in a more human-like interaction between AI chatbots and users. It is also making tasks quicker and more efficient to complete. Due to this, AI chatbots are also starting to replace complex navigation systems and menus on some websites. This trend will progress and make navigating websites more natural.

2) Artificial Intelligence is replacing human moderation of content. Overall, content moderation is relatively simple; delete posts that are not civil. Currently, humans have to moderate a large amount of content on most websites. This method of moderating content is extremely inefficient. Companies like DebateIsland and Reddit are already using AI to analyze content on their platforms and Reddit is moderating content using analytics to an extent. AI Analyrics is being utilized on many websites to start the process of implementing AI moderation on a large scale. With Artificial Intelligence moderation, if a user posts a rude comment that violates the terms of service of an application, AI will kick in directly before the content is posted and delete it. This is much faster than waiting for human moderators to manually check a mass amount of content. Soon, websites and applications will also mostly replace their human moderation with Artifical Intelligence moderation which is based on content analytics.

3) Artificial Intelligence is making product descriptions more tailored towards individual users by using data. When potential customers go to non-AI online shopping platforms and view a product, they see a description of the product, possibly a discount icon, and some other information. These portions of text usually attempt to persuade people to purchase an item, but are no where near their maximum potential. Soon, more websites will begin to utilize Artificial Intelligence for displaying certain variations of text, sales pitches, etc. to customers based on a coupious amount of data collected about them. The content will be much more tailored towards individual users and show what content will most likely persuade them to purchase merchandise. That change will increase the number of sales a company has online due to the content being more targeted. In addition, Artificial Intelligence is being used on shopping websites to give greatly improved product recommendations. This is helping users find products to purchase more rapidly. Due to these sizable advances in the way people shop, online shopping is becoming smart, while benefiting companies and consumers. After these enhancements will be mainstream, online shopping will continue to grow at an accelerated pace due to its benefits, while further reducing the number of physical stores that companies operate.

4) Artificial Intelligence is helping connect similar people (social media, dating, games, legal advice, etc.). On many websites that don’t use this AI technology, users have to manually search and try to find people they want to connect with, ask advice from, compete against, or follow. Artificial Intelligence is starting to positively transform this inefficient process. Some companies are already utilizing AI to automatically connect people online with high accuracy by collecting and analyzing data about users on their platforms. So, instead of looking through somewhat accurate connection recommendations, users are able to ask an AI program to be connected with another person, and they’ll be almost immediately interacting with them.

5) Artificial Intelligence is making content much more interactive. Most online content right now is beginning to move from being displayed in large chunks of text or providing too much unrelated information which waste users’ time, to interactive smaller portions of text. Previously, if somebody wanted to read a website’s FAQ, they would have to find information and read a lot of unrelated text to get what facts they need. Currently, on various websites, Artificial Intelligence is making content such as FAQ pages much more interactive by AI expeditiously providing important snippets of information after a user asks it to do so. That method is saving people time and provides them with a lot of knowledge regarding the question asked by a user.
